Frequently Asked Questions

Contract

By purchasing a share in the syndicate you agree by the Syndicates Terms and Conditions a copy will be provided upon request or on purchasing a share (if online)

Do I actually own the horse?

Yes! Unlike leasing options available within other racing clubs, Share A Winner members will own their share percentage for life or until the horse is sold at which time owners are entitled to their share percentage relative to sale price less auctioneers costs, expenses and trainers deduction of 5%, and a 5% deduction to be retained by the Syndicate managers.

Am I entitled to prize money?

Yes! Win/place & appearance money accrued when your horse runs entitles you to a return relative to your share percentage subject to any BHA expenses

Can I choose where my horse runs?

No, whilst we promote and actively facilitate member interaction/discussion within the syndicate, ultimately the final decision on race entries & declarations will be made by the trainer.

Can I sell my share privately

We are unable to buy back any shares once purchased, however individuals can look to sell their shares if they can find a suitable purchase, upon written notification to us.

Can I visit my horse at the yard?

Yes! Throughout the year we will organise several yard open days available for members. If you can't make these scheduled open days and would like to visit the yard another time we will endeavour to accommodate your request but please provide as much notice as possible.

Can I watch my horse run?

We will always endeavour to secure the maximum number of race day badges available for a syndicate to access "owners & trainers" area of the racecourse including the parade ring. This number will be advised ahead of time on a race by race basis as each course/meeting will differ with their ticket allowance. The total amount of allocated tickets will be randomly drawn amongst members who indicate they wish to attend the fixture. Reduced Entry badges maybe available at certain courses which we will be happy to facilitate at the shareholders own cost. These badges will not offer any entitlement to access the Parade Ring or other dedicated Owners area.

Is there an ongoing monthly cost

Within your purchase cost we have carefully budgeted to cover all training fees and associated costs namely standard entry fees, jockey fees, travel to and from the racecourse etc. We therefore will not ask for a residual amount of money within the first 12 months unless an overseas engagement is planned or entry fees above £500 would be incurred. In this instance, we would work on a case by case basis, subject to a majority of shareholders vote (51%+), which may attract an additional payment, or a deduction from prize money. If after a period of 12 months we wish to continue training/racing we'll update members ahead of time regarding monthly costs outside of the initial 12 month period. This scenario is considered unlikely however as out intentions will be to sell the horse after 12 months.

Is the horse insured ?

We do not insure the horse, although we will arrange Public Liability cover to protect the Shareholders should any claim be made for Injury/Damage caused by the horse.

Note Should a syndicated horse significantly improve in value via performance the syndicate managers will consider insurance policy options whereby syndicate members can opt in or out.

Naming Rights?

If we syndicate an unnamed horse, we will run a competition to name the horse by vote amongst all shareholders.

Will I receive updates about my horse?

We will provide regular updates on horses progress including pre and post race analysis, including jockeys & trainer comments if available. These updates will be provided by email and WhatsApp/Telegram messaging services. By joining this syndicate you agree to receive updates via this method.

Note WhatsApp messenger groups do not provide the ability to hide an individual’s phone number, so your number maybe visible to others.

Syndicate Members Conduct

We really want to ensure all syndicate members share a positive experience be that at the racecourse, an open day or through general group interaction. Therefore any behaviour reported or witnessed that is deemed defamatory, offensive, against the values of Share A Winner or to intentionally solicit members away from the syndicate. Syndicate mangers reserve the right to warn and potentially remove anyone found to be in breach of these rules.
